2024 was a busy year for ArticleSubmission.news – we were pleased to complete a wide range of projects for our clients with results we were all happy with.
In 2024 we also took more time to record and share our customers’ feedback, as we believed other Sydneysiders looking to extend their home would find the homeowner side just as interesting as hearing from us as designers and builders.
We also help add useful information to our website social media via video interviews, presented projects And Customer testimonialsThis feedback allowed us to validate and substantiate our guesses about the emerging trends of 2024.
Rental market drives home renovations
Over the last few years we’ve written about how Sydneysiders took advantage of a major renovation to create Multi-generational homes – a common trend in which young families with children expand their homes to welcome the parents, usually so they can care for them as they age.
What we saw in 2024 was almost the opposite: older parents – retired or nearing retirement – turning to ArticleSubmission.news to expand their home, usually to accommodate a son or daughter and their young family.
The cause: a rental market that priced out many people and, due to rising rents, uncertainty about the length of the rental period.
Families with young children want to settle down, get to know and be part of the neighborhood, and be sure that the children can attend the same school for several years in a row.
This provides an additional benefit for older parents who are expanding their home closer to their grandchildrenAnd for young parents there is additional help in looking after their children from people they can completely trust.
Moving is not an option
The continued strength of the home buying market was another driver for home renovations.
More than one family who contacted ArticleSubmission.news had been thinking about selling their home to buy something larger, but found that high prices and limited stock left them searching for hours and getting stuck.
Having factored in the costs of moving (with stamp duty increasing as property prices rise), it also made financial sense to extend the house they were in, offsetting the construction costs with the increased value of their home.
Home office – a change of focus
As more people return to work from their company’s office, working from home is no longer as much of a focus as it was immediately during and after COVID.
However, many people still work from home at least part of the week, and they haven’t forgotten the distractions that come with too many people working at home without separation.
So we see larger bedrooms for children to create space for studying, but also the creation or conversion of rooms into small home offices, as well as the careful placement of study or office corners in quieter areas of the house.
Energy saving measures
With energy bills expected to remain high, homeowners are taking advantage of a major renovation to save money by reducing their paid energy usage.
This can be done in different ways, be it through the use of thermally efficient building materials, through the use of double glazing or through the installation of solar panels to generate energy and hot water.
Connecting a solar system to a home battery is also more common than before, especially as people move back to the office and demand for electricity decreases during daylight hours.
