Mercedes-Benz is heading to the cinema this winter, announcing a collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation’s upcoming theatrical release GOAT, set to hit cinemas worldwide in February 2026. Set in an all-animal world, the film follows Will, a young goat who chases the seemingly impossible dream of becoming a professional in a high-intensity sport called Roar Ball, and Mercedes leans into that underdog energy with a simple message: “There is a place for those who dream.”

For car lovers, the garage on the screen is the most fun part. According to Mercedes, three vehicles will be featured throughout the film: the all-new CLA 250+ with EQ technology, the all-new electric GLC (with preliminary efficiency figures) and the well-known Sprinter van. It’s an interesting mix that combines sophistication with everyday utility. That’s exactly how product placement works best when it feels like a part of the world and not like a wink at the camera.

Mercedes doesn’t stop at film appearances either. A special campaign runs from January to March 2026 and is based on a 30-second spot and a full range of cuts for streaming, TV, digital and cinema placements. The concept is based on a child who leaves the cinema excited about GOAT and lets his imagination run wild on the ride home in a CLA. This is a pretty classic recipe for making an ad seem like a short story rather than a fact sheet.

What makes this partnership feel contemporary is where Mercedes is putting its chips right now. The company is positioning the CLA and electric GLC as key players in its biggest product launch program to date, and that’s an easier sell when the cars are shown as characters in a story and not just transportation. In a family-friendly animated film, you also get a built-in stage for topics like safety, comfort and everyday usability, the things that actually convince people to try an electric vehicle.

Mercedes also used the announcement to remind everyone that the new CLA is already winning numerous awards, including the 2026 Car of the Year award and the Best Performer award in Euro NCAP tests. These are the kinds of boasts that often get lost in the noise of the constant news about electric vehicles. Therefore, linking them to a pop culture moment is a smart way to expand the audience beyond the usual enthusiasts.

As for GOAT itself, on paper the film has a strong pedigree. The film comes from Sony Pictures Animation with Tyree Dillihay as director and Adam Rosette as co-director and is produced by a team that includes Stephen Curry, who also voices a character. The cast list is full of familiar names, and the premise sounds like a high-energy sports comedy that would be a good fit for the cinema, especially given its February release.

Ultimately, this is less about a single film appearance and more about how car brands market in 2026. Mercedes uses entertainment to make its latest vehicles feel present in everyday life and in the imagination, and that’s exactly where modern EV branding needs to live. If GOAT creates a connection like Sony and Mercedes envision, we can expect there to be many more collaborations like this, where the car isn’t the hero, but is definitely part of the adventure.
