Genesis used its Magma world premiere at the Circuit Paul Ricard in France to talk about the future of performance, but it’s the past that has quietly crept into the conversation. While the mid-engine Magma GT halo car and the standard GV60 Magma EV were supposed to be in the spotlight, a bright orange long-roof parked nearby had station wagon fans doing a double take. This car is the Genesis G90 Wingback concept, a full-fledged luxury performance car that introduces the BMW 7 Series Touring, Mercedes S-Class wagon and Audi A8 Avant that never existed.

Based on the G90 flagship sedan, the Wingback swaps the formal three-box profile for a stretched roofline and a slim station wagon rear. Up front, it sports a slimmer grille and a more aggressive bumper with diamond-pattern air intakes, while wider front fenders and high-performance tires fill the arches. In back, it really leans into the long-roof look with a revised roofline that flows into a ducktail spoiler, a full-width LED light bar, an extended roof spoiler and a deep rear diffuser wrapped around four exhaust pipes.

Genesis hasn’t released exact specifications, but the Magma branding and significantly lower stance suggest this is more than just a design exercise. Compared to the standard G90, the Wingback appears to be closer to the pavement with larger wheels and likely improved brakes, suggesting suspension tuning aimed at high-speed stability rather than pure comfort. Given the current G90’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 powertrain options, one might reasonably expect a hotter tune under the hood, in keeping with the visual intent of Genesis’ new Luxury High Performance direction.

The concept also fits into a larger G90 story that Genesis has been quietly sketching out all year. It builds on previous G90 coupe and convertible concepts and paints a picture of a flagship family that ranges from the chauffeur-driven sedan to the grand touring coupe to this uncompromising performance station wagon. At the same time, it occupies a niche that the Germans left untouched, effectively becoming the 7 Series, S-Class or A8 wagon that enthusiasts have imagined for decades but never seen in showrooms.

It is still unclear whether Genesis will actually build the G90 Wingback. With full-size luxury sedans struggling worldwide and station wagons still remaining a niche passion, full production would be a bold move, and the brand isn’t making any promises just yet. More likely, the concept serves as both a technical flex and a statement of intent for the Magma sub-brand, previewing styling cues and attitude that will be incorporated into future Genesis models. Still, for station wagon enthusiasts, knowing that the company is even considering a long-roof flagship like this is enough to keep the dream alive.
