Ram didn’t just bring the TRX back, he brought it back with a point to prove. After the supertruck was retired after the 2024 model year, Ford’s 720-hp F-150 Raptor R essentially had bragging rights about factory-warranted horsepower. That’s quickly changing with the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX, which returns with a supercharged V-8 engine producing 777 horsepower, immediately putting Ram back at the top of the half-ton performance class and giving off-road performance fans something big to put on the calendar.
Visually, the resurrected TRX stays close to the beefy widebody formula that made the original such a menace, but there are meaningful clues. The main release package is the Bloodshot Night Edition, a two-tone setup with a hand-painted black top and a flame red hood stripe that looks like it was meant for parking lot brawls. All TRX models also receive a red-outlined RAM grille logo, and the TRX badge on the tailgate now includes a Tyrannosaurus Rex head for a more eye-catching signature. Just as importantly for brand nerds, this truck marks the true return of SRT, as the 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX is the first Ram truck to wear this badge since the old SRT-10 days.
The big story lives under the hood. According to Ram CEO Tim Kuniskis, this isn’t simply the old 6.2-liter setup with a little more boost, but a new variant with revised engine management and hardware drawn from the company’s “orange” and “red” engine block programs as well as Direct Connection supported parts. In addition to the total output of 777 hp, a 2.4-liter compressor ensures a torque of 680 Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels via an upgraded eight-speed automatic transmission, and the Ram sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, with top speed maintained at 118 mph. This quick hit is important because it’s not just about outdoing the Raptor R on paper, but also about reminding everyone that the TRX can drive like a muscle car on 35s.
Off-road, the TRX formula remains reassuringly hard. The truck rides on 35-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory all-terrain tires, supported by a strengthened chassis and long-travel suspension that now uses the latest Bilstein Black Hawk e2 adaptive dampers. Out back, a five-link coil spring system manages the solid rear axle, and if you’re the type to really step on the gas and commit, 18-inch beadlock wheels are still on the menu. Ground clearance is listed at 11.8 inches, and Ram says the breakover, breakover and departure angles are all slightly improved compared to the last TRX, which is a nice bonus considering this thing is still a full-size truck built like a battering ram.
Inside, Ram feels strongly that the TRX can be a desert runner and a premium daily driver. The interior gets a more upscale finish with a leather-wrapped steering wheel cap, a full microsuede and leather headliner covering the dashboard and other key touchpoints, and real carbon fiber trim. The technology also advances with a head-up display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a huge 14.5-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 5. A 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system is standard, and for the first time in a TRX, there’s a hands-free driving mode designed for compatible highways.
The 2027 Ram 1500 SRT TRX is expected to arrive at dealers in the second half of 2026, with a starting price of $102,590. That’s a notable strike across Ford’s bow considering the F-150 Raptor R currently starts at $113,525, and Ram is clearly happy to point out that it brings more power for less starting money. The price of the Bloodshot Night Edition has not yet been announced. So expect this gap to narrow if you want the full red-black treatment. Either way, the message is simple: the TRX is back, the SRT badge is back, and the horsepower war in the half-ton world just got very loud again.
