The font has been known for some time, but now it’s official. The third-generation BMW Z4 will go down in the history books, and its farewell comes in the form of the 2026 Z4 Final Edition, a limited edition that relies heavily on drama, nostalgia and collectible value. The G29 Z4 was launched in 2019 as the Austrian-built brother of the Toyota Supra, bringing sharper dynamics and a return to classic roadster proportions. Production is scheduled to stop in early 2026. The Final Edition cars are built in very small numbers between February and April, making this car as much a suicide note as it is a weekend toy.
Visually, BMW has focused entirely on the mood. Every Z4 Final Edition features Frozen Black metallic paint, which gives the car a satin, almost inconspicuous appearance. This finish is combined with the Shadowline package, so the grille surround, mirror caps, air intakes and exhaust tips are all finished in gloss black. The only real pop of color comes from the red brake calipers that hide behind the staggered wheels, making the car look like it’s perfectly dressed for an evening drive on a canyon road.
Open the long door and the theme continues inside. The interior is a sea of black leather and Alcantara on the seats, door panels and center console, punctuated by red contrast stitching on the seats and floor mats, as well as the familiar M Tricolor stripes woven into the seat belts. The “Final Edition” lettering on the door sills quietly tells those in the know what they’re getting into, while standard features like the Premium package, Harman Kardon audio and BMW’s driver assistance technology remind you that despite the nostalgia, this is still a completely modern roadster.
Under the hood, BMW has kept things simple and enthusiast-friendly. Each Final Edition is based on the Z4 M40i, meaning it’s a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with 382 hp and 369 Nm of torque sent to the rear wheels. On the order form you can make exactly a sensible selection, and this is the most important for the driver. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission, and no matter which transmission they choose, the price is $78,675 including shipping destination. With production intentionally limited to just a few months and BMW openly confirming that the Z4 will not be replaced, this Final Edition feels tailor-made for collectors who still want a roadster they can actually drive and enjoy.
