Bentley is giving the Continental GT Supersports badge a completely different personality this time. Instead of building the highest-volume car, the 2027 Continental GT Supersports has been reimagined as a machine for people who value feel and finesse over pure showing off. It’s still a 600+ horsepower luxury grand tourer, but the big story is how much Bentley has shed in the name of driver engagement.

The headline change is under the hood. It’s about the plug-in hybrid setup of the latest Continental GT, and it comes with a standalone twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 tuned to produce 657 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Power is transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. This makes this the first rear-wheel drive Continental GT since the nameplate’s rebirth in the early 2000s. Bentley claims a 0-62mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of around 192mph, and initial estimates suggest a 0-60mph time of around 3.3 seconds, which is a little different from the GT Speed on paper, but with a very different feel behind the wheel.

What really sets this car apart is the weight loss mission. Previous Supersports models still weighed well over 5,000 pounds, even after boasting about diet programs. This new generation is attacking en masse in a way we are not used to in Crewe. Bentley says the Supersports has shed about 1,000 pounds compared to a comparable hybrid GT, bringing the curb weight down to under 4,400 pounds. This is achieved by eliminating the rear seats, lower sound insulation, a slimmed down audio system and the use of lightweight front seats – all in an interior that still looks like a real Bentley with fine leather, carbon fiber and beautiful switchgear.

The body and chassis receive the same obsessive treatment. A carbon fiber roof panel replaces steel, while more carbon is used for the lower front fascia, rear diffuser and a fixed rear wing, giving the large coupe the look of a real racing car. Underneath, the Supersports retains the regular Continental’s four-wheel steering, air springs and active 48-volt anti-roll system, but the calibration is unique. Touring, Bentley and Sport driving modes are tailored to this model and are supported by carbon silicon carbide brakes and an Akrapovič full titanium exhaust, which saves weight and promises a much louder, more natural V8 sound in the cabin.

However, Bentley is not pretending that this is a stripped-down special for racing drivers. It’s still a two-seat luxury GT with heat and power controls for the front seats, appropriate materials wherever you look and enough comfort to cross continents at high speed. The difference is that when it hits winding roads, the car should finally feel as light-footed as its performance and price suggest. With rear-wheel drive, a locking rear differential, brake-based torque vectoring and those big carbon brakes, the Supersports is designed to turn and communicate in a way that no modern Continental has before.

Exclusivity is an essential part of the story. Bentley plans to build just 500 examples of the 2027 Continental GT Supersports for markets around the world, including the United States. Production is scheduled to begin at the end of next year, with first deliveries to customers scheduled for early 2027. Prices will start at over $486,000 before options and personalization, meaning most cars will end up even deeper into the six-figure range by the time buyers are done with the Mulliner options list.

For a brand already making a major move toward electrified performance, the new Supersports feels like a carefully targeted farewell letter to the traditional grand tourer. No hybrid boost, no front-drive safety net and a serious focus on weight reduction give this Continental a personality that stands out from its plug-in siblings. It looks like the car Bentley built for the customer who still loves the idea of a long hood, a big front V8 engine, rear-only power and a chassis that wants to speak rather than isolate. In other words, it’s really for the purists.
