Genesis is recalling a small batch of its flagship G90 sedans because of a problem that they would never attribute to the paint. Certain vehicles painted in Savile Silver may apply the brakes unexpectedly when Highway Driving Assist is active because the aluminum content in this color may interfere with the sedan’s front corner radar sensors. In very specific situations, the system can mistake the radar reflected from the bumper and paint for another vehicle veering into the lane, which then triggers unnecessary automatic braking and causes a lot of confusion for the driver behind the wheel.
According to information filed with regulators, Genesis has recorded 11 cases of unwanted braking related to this issue, with no accidents or injuries reported to date. The behavior occurs when Highway Driving Assist is activated at low speeds below approximately 12 mph, or at higher speeds when Lane Change Assist attempts to change lanes after the driver taps the turn signal. In these moments, the car’s brain pays close attention to traffic in adjacent lanes, so any false echo of the Savile Silver paint can be enough to convince it that something is coming up.
To forestall the issue, Genesis is recalling all 483 Savile Silver 2023 to 2026 G90 sedans built between April 21, 2022 and October 13, 2025. Production of this specific color has been paused until engineers finalize the solution, which is surprisingly easy. The solution is to seal the front bumper beam so that the radar signal is not reflected in a way that the system can misinterpret, allowing the hardware to see the road instead of its own reflection. Other G90 paint colors, including the matte finish, are not affected.
Owners of Savile Silver vehicles are asked not to use Highway Driving Assist until their vehicle is repaired, even if the basic warranty period has already expired. Genesis will cover the remediation free of charge and plans to notify dealers and affected customers by the end of January 2026. It’s a strange case where stylish color choices and high-tech driving assistance silently collided, and it’s a good reminder that as cars become more advanced, even small details like paint chemistry can have a big impact on how all the technology behaves on the road.
