Ram has been on a bit of a listening spree lately, and the 2027 Power Wagon feels like the loudest “we heard you” ever. After years of enthusiasts begging for a diesel option that doesn’t compromise the truck’s off-road character, Ram is finally combining the Power Wagon with a powerful oil burner. The headline numbers are exactly what you’d expect from a modern Cummins powerhouse: a 6.7-liter high-output turbodiesel with 430 horsepower and a massive 1,075 lb-ft of torque. And with a 31-gallon fuel tank onboard, Ram estimates a range of up to 600 miles, which sounds tailor-made for long-distance trips to remote trailheads.
Of course, a Power Wagon can’t live on torque alone, and the good news is that the rest of the formula stays true to its mission. The hardware list reads like a proper off-road build straight from the factory: electronic limited-slip differentials front and rear, a switchable front stabilizer bar, Bilstein shock absorbers and some serious underbody protection. The Ram’s five-link rear suspension is also carried over, helping the big truck maintain a ground clearance of just over 13.0 inches. The off-road geometry is strong, too, with a 26.1-degree approach angle, a 20.6-degree breakover angle, and a 26.0-degree breakover angle, plus standard Mopar stone rails for those moments when the road gets a little too friendly with your doors.
What makes this diesel twist really interesting is that it expands the Power Wagon’s “do anything” personality beyond crawling and camping. Ram supports the additional 3.42 rear axle ratio combined with the eight-speed TorqueFlite HD automatic, which aims to handle diesel torque more confidently while improving towing performance. For the first time, Ram is also offering fifth-wheel and gooseneck tow prep for the Power Wagon, which is a big deal for buyers who want a truck that can play in the dirt on Saturday and tow something serious on Monday. There’s also available rear air suspension with auto-leveling, a feature that makes heavy loads and trailers feel less dramatic.
The visuals aren’t overly exaggerated, and that’s part of the charm. A set of 34-inch all-terrain tires wrapped around 20-inch Satin Black wheels give it the right stance without looking like a concept truck that escaped the showroom floor. Ram also sprinkles in Power Wagon bed decals, a sport performance hood, and subtle satin black Cummins emblems on the fenders – a nice way to say, “Yeah, it’s got the diesel” without screaming it. Inside, the Power Wagon continues the heavy-duty range’s trend upscale, offering a choice from cloth seats to heated and ventilated leather bucket seats.
Technology and safety are also integrated, which is more important than ever for a truck that spends as much time on the highway as it does off the road. Available extras include a 14.5-inch Uconnect 5 touchscreen, a passenger display, and premium Alpine or Harman Kardon audio, depending on how serious you are about road trip playlists. Driver assistance highlights include adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring with trailer coverage, and surround-view camera systems designed specifically for towing and off-road maneuvering. The 2027 Ram Power Wagon with the Cummins high-performance diesel is scheduled to go on sale in the second half of 2026 and starts at $88,470 including destination, which, while proud, is also pretty on-brand for a loaded, dedicated heavy-duty off-roader with this kind of torque.
